Happy Birthday, Lavi

I sighed deeply as I lay in the still grass looking up at the night sky. The stars flickered as if winking at me. I closed my eyes as the night breeze ruffled my hair.

“That was some birthday party,” I whispered to myself. And it had been. It started out with me just leaving to go for a walk. I like to take walks alone sometimes. They give me time to just..think. Anyways, I was on my walk, thinking silently to myself, when Lenalee runs up to me and grabs my hand. She pulls me out of my thoughts and back to the house. The rest was pretty clichéd. I walk in, and all the lights are off. Lenalee flips on the lights and they all jump out and yell surprise at me. It was a good time. Although..Allen seemed a little off. More off than he usually is. He just stared at me the entire time. He barely spoke a word to me. Just stared.

Lost in my thoughts again, I just lay motionless in the grass. There’s a hill by us that I like to lay on at night and stare up at the stars. I could look at the sky for hours. I talk to the stars sometimes. In my head of course, but I know they hear me. And they can never tell anyone what I say. Best secret keepers ever.

Just then, I hear someone approaching me from behind. I think it’s Lenalee again. I try to act asleep while still listening intently.

“Lavi?” I hear a voice say. It was Allen’s. “Come on, you’re not really asleep are you?”

Fearing that he has something else to drag me to, I keep up my act.

“I was hoping I could give you this while you were awake, but…maybe this is better.”

And with that he kissed me. It was short, and sweet, but meaningful. My lips tingled after he pulled away.

“Happy birthday, Lavi.” He whispered in my ear before getting up and walking away.

I wanted to get up and chase after him. To tackle him to the ground and pull him into another kiss, but I didn’t. I couldn’t. I was frozen where I was. But whether I could’ve moved or not,

This was the best birthday I’ve ever had.
